Royalties for Artists and Record Companies


anybody have any thoughts on this??? if this goes thru, it might even the playin field... i dunno... there are other links as well, i seen it in the backpage of the NY Daily News.

Its bad for internet radio ... And thus I think it sucks...
But the artist side of me thinks its good..
But this will probably lead to artists bullying stations and shit too.

Internet radio is not big enough for it to make a big dent in the game IMO. I don't think they'll be going after them anyway...unless they get alot of advertising dollars. Advertising dollars are what make or break radio anyway. If that's the case they should pay up! Anything that puts more money in the artist pocket is a good thing IMO. Alot of songs don't come to life until the right performer puts their special sauce on it. Everybody (especially in R&B) doesn't have the gift to write good songs but without their performance it would be just another song. The labels have been screwing artist for along time and for most starting out they live off of their performing royalties i.e doing shows. Look how many songs have got madd radio play. A new artist doesn't see much of anything until 6 mo. to a year down the line. If you happen to have an instant hit on your hands you can get paid really fast if this works out.

I like the idea. Don't know how far it will get though. It may pass but I think the artist will probably get less than their normal royalty rate. i.e if your at 13% you might get like 6.5%. Anything is better than nothing!
