Rapper sign language

Why do most rappers use all kinds of sign language when they're rapping? They waive their arms and hands all over the place, doing the traditional gun shot motion with their hands, and point their index finger to their head when they say something like, "...you better think twice..."?

What's up with that??

The whole hand gestures things helps you get your groove on (LOL). Its another form of expression! If rappers aren't moving there hands rapping then most likely they are bobing there head to a beat!

Ed OG is the true master of sign language in rap he actually had a woman sign the words to his song be a father to your child in the video good Idea but how could he get def people to buy his album....I think that's why he's not on like he should be because someone def brought it and said he's saying a whole lot of nothing

it's just their way of expressing themselves -- you ever seen people that when they talk, they use a lot of body language too???? -- it's the same thing

How about having your artist stand completely still and rap into a mic. THEN you see what looks dumber.

just body language. its hard to spit without moving your hands. its not a "rhetorical device" -its just a natural thing to do when you spit. i'm sure some people make gestures, signs, etc. that have some meaning but that is not the general purpose.
