Sampling?

Ok I can sense this is a series of stupid questions but I was wandering.
1. Is it possible to sample sounds from normal audio cds, what I mean is if I like a sound that I hear on say the new tupac cd I bought is it possible for me to break the track up and sample that sound or is it only possible to sample from disc that are especially made for sampling (like those cds you can order with the mpc)
2.Also when I order the cds that have the samples on them for the MPC is it possible for me to also use those samples in Recycle to put in the Rex loop player in reason?

ofcos u can, but ud hav to first extract da audio from da cd n convert it to a wav file or sumtin. den u can chop up wat u wnt usin various programs like cool edit.

da second question, hmm im not sure wat format mpc cds come in but recylce will only take wav files

Goldy_C, my friend, here are the answers:

1. you can sample from every possible source.
what i mean is: you have a cd you like. you put it in the cd-rom drive.
you open a wave editor. you load the track you like (music cds = .cdda).
you cut the sample, and work on it until you like what you hear (called: flipping a sample). then you save your sample (usually you'd want it as a .wav).
same goes for vinyl, only that you sample from a turntable. sample cds come in different file formats.
each format has its own editor\player.
the industry standard is CDDA\WAV. but there are many sample cds for specific samplers (ie: halion\sampletank etc' etc').

2. mpc sample cds cannot be read in recycle, until you convert the samples into a format recycle can load.
recycle do not support Akai MPC-2000/MPC-3000 formats.
(explanation: The operating system in these models currently don't support MIDI SysEx control, which is essential in order to make ReCycle support the sampler. The MPC-2000/3000 machines will probably never get this feature). if you want to use the mpc samples in reason, you'd have to convert them to .rx2 (recycle 2 format).

Goldy, if you have Cool Edit Pro, you can open up MP3's in there and begin chopping. If not, you can get a MusicMatch and "rip" audio from the CD.

Oh! I got an idea Ill take the files (which come in wave files on cds) and use that wave to mp3 converter thingie that my homeboy gave me and send them through cool edit pro muhhahahaha:evillaugh thnx Fade

If you have propellerhead Reload, you can load akai S1000/S3000 samples into Reason or ReCycle. Here's a little info:
"Reload converts AKAI S1000 and S3000 formatted media into formats that can be used with Reason, ReCycle and the rest of your audio applications. The Reload utility lets you load up entire AKAI sound disks and save the contents as NN-XT patches or ReFills - complete with the original sample names, loop points and parameter settings. AKAI samples are easily converted into WAV files, for use with Redrum or NN-19. Or with ReCycle, or with the audio software of your choice."
