maybe a chat below each fight or live stats for each fight
it just needs something else. maybe a shorter time. 1 or 2-day battles
I hear you, but I think there's a good chance the battles would lack votes. End up with only 1 vote or something.
Maybe some active fights banner, lit up and shiny,
Maybe a boxing/wrestling ring with the matchups scattered around it.

I don't want to put the vote count because like @Iron Keys said it could skew the votes. This is why all the other battles are anonymous.
I thought of putting a chat but I saved that for a future version, if there's enough activity. Right now I just want to see a steady amount of battles and votes happening. So far it's pretty good.
For the length of the battles, 1-2 days would be too short. Already with 7 days, even though the votes are good, I would like to see more activity.
I'm just so glad that I don't have to do anything with these battles! Fully automated.

Is there any way of having a discussion thread for these battles? Also a notification of new battles when they start? Without checking from time to time I never know if a battle is happening or when one has ended. No way of congratulating a winner without messaging them directly. Surely the creation of new threads can be automated too, once a battle has been accepted and the countdown for voting has started? Then automatically closed a few days after the battle has ended.

I thought about having comments on the battles but I can't see there being many since there's not a lot of posts even in the forums. So that's on my later-on to-do list.
I was thinking of putting a ticker across the top of the site that shows the active and finished battles, but either way it requires people to go to the Beat Fights section and click the battles.
If they can't do that, then I should just go to peoples' houses and force them at gunpoint to click their mouse a couple of times to view the fights.

When we are done teaching people how to click a mouse we can then go around showing them how to post feedback when posting a beat in the showcase.
Also, I had a thought, letting people know a beat fight is actually live might improve engagement. But that said, nobody has barely said a word about anything on here in days, so I get your point. It saddens me when I see so little activity. Hang in there bro, I feel your pain.

Yeah it's frustrating. I was thinking of even putting Beat Fights directly in the menu so we would have BEAT BATTLES and BEAT FIGHTS next to it. But that's still a couple of clicks with eye rolls. I'll think of something.
As far as regular engagement, yeah it's sad. The Basement was always the busiest, with people talking about whatever. But it's like that everywhere online, unless it's a discussion about politics. Then it's non-stop posts. Sad.
Non stop rage, hatred and division with politics. I'm done with that shit. I'm about equal opportunities with shitting on politicians, I shit on all of them equally now. But that's not the engagement we need here. The fact that religion and politics isn't up for debate here has been one of ILL's greatest strengths IMO, that shit is too divisive and brings the worst out of people. Independent thought isn't very popular these days where people try to squeeze themselves into boxes for clicks and likes. I'd rather have my integrity than be liked, and that gets me in trouble personally, so speak from experience.
