The Lottery...I find it hard to believe...

I'll play the lottery every now and then but not often. I've noticed that it gets up in the BIG bucks (over 250 milliion) about 3 to 4 times a year. I just find it hard to believe that it would reach that size on its on, it's almost unnatural just by the rule of chance. It takes several months of people and the computer picks missing the jackpot for it to get that large. Millions and millions of different sequenced numbers, all missing.

Everybody has heard that they say "you have a better chance of getting hit by lightening than you do hitting the lotto". Well think about it like this...if there was a thunderstorm the size of the entire United States and some of Canada that came through twice a week, what would be the chance of someone getting hit by lightening then? Much greater than it would appear.

I just find it hard to believe that this isn't staged in some way. What are your thoughts?

I play once every few months and have thought (few years ago) what I would have done and where I would be now if I had won back then. Then I was working on phones and smoking and drinking and was still on the rugged part of my journey, so I am actually glad I didn't win back then because I hear the money just magnifies who and what you are. Right now I have a nice job and just enough money to be consistently inspired musically. If I do win won day I would not turn it down but it is kinda scary how 250 million will drasticaly change everything and everyone around you.

It could easily be set-up with that much money involved, it's more the hours counting down to the numbers I like. It's nice to think in one hour I might be a millionaire and what would I do

It seems that what Chrono said about it amplifying who you are is very true. I was reading some of the failure stories of those that hit the lotto and ended up going bankrupt in a few years. The number 1 reason was because of family members wanting and needing money, the number 2 reason was the cars and houses that we go buy right after hitting it big. Drug and DUI charges was very common also. The story basically said that money management was the key to success.

When you think about it, money can do alot of damage to someone that you think youre helping. With 100million dollars, it's easy to buy your best friend a new Benz, or a struggling family member a new house but the question is will they be able to maintain it? I know for a fact that the maintianence on a Benz is very expensive. I broke the door lock on mine and took it to the dealership, it cost me $410 to get it fixed. What about the taxes on a new house? It takes more resources to heat and cool a bigger house, would they be able to afford the light bill every month or would you have to pay it also?

And thats just the surface of the bad things that could happen from doing somebody a favor.

Hmmm, in that case id do all that and move to the Sanctuary out in the outskirts of Charlotte and still invest.
I would not blow it on buying a buncha of shit that depriciates as as soon as you leave with it.


Of course thou I might spend a cool mil on putting together an actual Illmuzik convention that tours internationally for about a year.

wow I didn't know that, I thought I had heard of people winning and staying anonymous.. Because I was thinking the same thing as Relic, after I won I would keep it very secret and help people mildly and give them opportunities to help themselves (not letting them know I was the one who helped them). If your friends or fam knew you won then it would most likely ruin your relationships.. i'd all be a game to get cash for them.

Another thing that alot of people dont realize is when someone dies, the administrator of the estate has to publically announce it in the local newspaper and thats how all the people that the deceased owed contacts the administrator for settlements. So if you were to win the lottery, the local news stations and newspapers would have a field day with you. Once that happens, the creditors start calling, mastercard, Visa, American express, charity organizations start calling, the boyscouts, girlscouts, Red cross, Salvation army, the firemens organizations, the police organizations, the public schools and thats just the more popular ones. It wouldn't be a bad idea to temporarily hire someone to handle all of the frenzy until things settle back down.

I personally think that the lottery is a fix too, I know Im very cynical, but I get this feeling that something aint what its made out to be, but thats the UK lotto, but I also think they are all the same. Just a way for some private company to make loads of money from our gambling habits. I dont do the lottery by the way.

They are all outr to get you, including me! But Dac makes a great point in the fact if a storm the size of the US and canada hit, lots of people would be getting hit by lightning.

I agree, everyone thinks that money will make them happy, even me. But the truth be told, we wouldnt know what to do with all the cash, end up wasting it and then wishing we never won it. What bullshit is that?
Id hope that I would be careful with the money but like Dac points out, once you have a bit of money then all the cockroaches come crawling out the woodwork.

That leaves me 183 million before taxes. 83 million would be used to pay ALL taxes of top, buy the new crib, a few cars, pay off any debts and so on...I'd put the remaining 100 million in a Swiss Bank Account, the avg savings interest is around 4% these days.

Thats $4 million per yr on interest, which would be my living money. I would take that in monthly payments of $300,000. I think that would cover just about anything that I would want to do...lol.

Gold is the thing to be investing in right now, as the value of the dollar depreciates the value of gold is soaring right now, last year gold was at $586 a troy ounce, right now its at over $1000 a troy ounce. And with fears of a global recession or should I say the actuality of a global recession the price is forecast to go to $1500 or even more.

I know of an annuity that is invested in the S&P 500 that only goes up , no shit, if the S&P goes down then your $$ just stays the same, if it goes up, then you get more, matures in 5 years and 10 year increments..Be np to drop an extra mil or w/e in there eh?
