When people use MPC's do they load the midi keyboards ino the mpc? I mean someone like Class has a keyboard, motif rack, and mpc.. so he doesn't use the pc for recording at all right? I'm guessing making teh beat and loading it too zip or floppy and then into pc

theres lots of ways you can use an mpc into your production, the most common ways i've heard, is you make the beat and sequence everything into the mpc, and then multi track the beat into a digital recorder or in you pc by connecting the outs of the mp into the ins of you recorder/soundcard. you can also use reason or your vst's on your pc as a sound moduole for the mpc, which will be way cheaper than buying a buch of racks.

Nahh its the oppsite, ALL i really use my PC for is recording. I record the finished beat from my MPC and racks into Pro-tools

But
I also do other stuff, like for example , when im playing live gutiar on a beat it dosent make sense for me to try and record direclty into the MPC.

In this case I will slave the MPC to pro-tools via MIDI and have the beat playing on the MPC and record the gutiar part in Pro -tools(its in time casue they are synced)

You can also use reason as a soundmodule to your MPC the same way i use the motif rack

It goes on and on, thats why the MPC is such a tight piece of gear, you can intergrate it into your setup anyway you want

I recently bought a korg electribe ea-1 off ebay so that I could have real analog to work with.. But I cannot configure it correctly to use with FL studio (cubase i do not understand yet) an it's been a huge waste of time. I can configure it so that I can trigger FL sounds on the electribe but when i try to reverse the connection i get nothing. If this doesn't work soon i'm selling it and saving up for an mpc.

I looked up the Akai Professional for around 800. What MPC should I get in this price range or a little cheaper?

For that price you can get an used mpc1000 on ebay ranging from $300-$800 depending on who the seller is. Or if your lucky you might even be able to find an mpc2000 or mpc2000xl for $800.

I'm leaning toward the MPC1000 because it has usb and is newer.. But it's real small compared to the MPC2000xl. I just put my electribe on ebay because the midi configuration was confusing and support was nill. So i'm leaning toward the MPC1000 because of the usb (and drag an drop features i read about) But what are the Differences between these two units? Is the 2000xl much better than the 1000?

There is a consiterable differrence between the 2000xl and 1000

The 2000xl is more stand alone and has Key features liking
zoning(chopping a sample like recylce)
sample editing,
time strech

The 1000 lacks these features , this is why its best to use the 1000 with a computer app that does these features.

WIth that being said personally those features the XL has are VERY important so just realise that if you use the 1000 you gonna have to find some other means of sample editing etc..(software, rack etc..)

THe plus side is the 1000 sequncer is virturally identical to the XL sequncer(besides those missing key features)

Also while the 1000 USB tranfer sounds cool, but in my experince it has been slow and buggy. Usually people just end up buying a USB CF card reader for their PC and transfer files back and forth via CF card.

This is what i do with my XL anyways......

I reccomend you check this site
www.mpc-tutor.com
www.akaipro.com
www.mpc2000xl.com

They will answer most of your questions about the specs on differnt MPC's

Thanks for the information Class. I've noticed that the 2000 and 2000xl both allow for external cd-roms and zip-drives and the 1000 doesn't not support this. I have one i'm bidding on right now but it is a 2000 and not a 2000 xl. I'm about to search this but since i'm here i'll ask: what are the key differences between the 2000 an 2kxl? and is the 2000 still better than the 1000?

edit

I found a great summery of the differences, which btw are a lot.. so this brings me to my second question: is the 2000 better than the 1000? the xl obviously is but from what I understand the sequencer in xl is much better than 2k alone.
