Which cords do I buy to hook up studio monitors to a audio interface

Powered monitors or passive?

Depends on what type outputs you have on the back of your interface. They'll either be rca, 1/4 inch or both! From there you go into the back of your monitors and they'll also be rca,1/4 inch or both. (some also have balanced inputs, three prong like microphone connections) and that cable would be XLR on female on one end and 1/4 inch on the other end that would come from the outputs of your interface. XLR connection is best if your monitors have them then 1/4 inch then rca.

If you have powered monitors with just those connections you should get sound. If they're passive monitors (unpowered) you'll need an amp to power the speakers or you'll get NO SOUND.

U may want to invest in a mixer as well to tie everything in together. Nothing fancy, something low cost will suffice til you can upgrade.

to hook up http://www.guitarcenter.com/KRK-Rokit-Powered-8-Generation-2-104908686-i1401614.gc to audio interface, Using XLR cable buying from guitarcenter.com which one thank you

Those are powered and they happen to be the EXACT monitors that I have in my studio. What type of interface do you have? The Rokit8's have all three inputs, XLR (where you would need a male XLR to 1/4 inch cable), 1/4 inch and rca inputs.

I currently use the balanced 1/4 cable, it's just as good as the XLR. I have a mixer though. I go 1/4 out of my interface (FAST TRACK PRO) into the back of my mixer (1/4 inch) and then I go out of my mixer into the 1/4 inch inputs of my ROKIT 8'S

Without a mixer you would go (depending on the outputs you have on the back of your interface) either 1/4 inch out of the interface to 1/4 inch in of the monitors (requires a 1/4 inch cable). If your interface only has rca outputs then you'd need an rca cable (rca out of interface to rca in on back of monitors)

choosing either one of the above depends on the output of your interface!!!!!!!
