What motivates you to keep making beats?

No matter what your beat making experience is, what keeps you going? Why do you keep making beats?

For me it's simply the love of music and it keeps my mind occupied.

Lately this website is one of my only motivations to make beats and also just learning to chop samples its a learning curve but it's fun.

I just started like two weeks ago. What keeps me going is that it feels amazing to do it. I love music and have a good ear for it but have always struggled to handle instruments. Being able to make the music myself is incredible. It's like I'm learning 1,000 instruments at once, without dexterity getting in the way.

I have a reputation to maintain. I do get bored quick these days though, especially when not sampling. Im going to start composing some layered loops without drums, then chop them up as if Ive sampled it. My composed stuff has a certain sound that Im unhappy with. So Im joining tracklib finally and also sampling myself. Its the only way to get that authentic hip hop sound IMO.

I still learn maybe 1 or 2 things at every beats I make. I try different things as well in each of them too which makes them pretty much all unique. That alone for now is enough to keep me going and I actually love the sounds I make no matter what others may think.

Helps me exercise my creative juices. It's also a good stress reliever.

Bored.
It's more engaging than sitting and playing video games or watching movies, but not so demanding that I don't enjoy messing around with it. This helps me feel less like I’m just sitting in a void wasting away.
As I get older, I can’t help but feel like more and more things are just a pointless time sink, but when I'm messing with the music stuff it feels different. Is it more "productive", I don't know, but it sure feels like it.

Pick at least 1 instrum you like to listen to in certain contexts e.g. certain songs/genres, something you know you can get a good teacher for on or offline and pay for lessons on a basic level.

Jokes aside. It's a creative (noun) thing. I'm a creative. I innately feel compelled to create. Like the carnal desire for sex. I have to create.

I keep meaning to do this and never do. I think cause I end up laying something I like "as it is" then I don't feel any need to chop it up because I don't feel like I'm cheating/stealing something as I do when using longer sample chops.

Something to do. Since I’ve joined it’s helped me see where I need to improve. I like competition and this place allows me to see how good I can be. So it’s been even more fun because of that.

I don't think it's about finding motivation to create anymore. getting to create is the only motivation to keep living. it's the only thing you can always look forward to. everything else is meaningless crap.

What's up? My name is Charles and I started making music in 2008 with a team of talented musicians, but we all grew up and stopped making music. I worked with music production programs like Acid Pro and FL Studios and also have Roland MV8000 to make beats. Now, I have been unemployed for a few months, so I bought an MPC Live II, learned STEMS software and came back with a vengeance. Music is my Zen, and it's the reason I don't lose my mind in my time off. I feel that my skills have increased and now I am looking to compare music with other musicians and learn more about the business. I like the IllMusik format, and I plan to participate in a few beat challenges and would love any input on my beats. The last beat I entered was "Blues inspired", and I sampled BB King for the Hip Hop/ Blues crossover. Thanks for having me in the group! All my friends are musicians, we are a different breed for sure.

Just love the creativity and putting a beat together. Often start with chosen bpm and lay down the hats. Then I might chop up some samples and play them out for a bit or lay drums down first.
Been using a few plugin instruments lately to play out a certain vibe.

Either way it’s the enjoyment of putting it all together.
Other motivation is listening to other artists and producers to help me get back in the creative flow.
I also get a buzz out of learning something new especially mixing. As I’m on the Mpc I search and follow some MPC guys and get plenty of inspiration to get back on the pads.
Then this place always dope and gets me in the mood.

A few reasons:
1) My passion for music. Been playing since I was a child.
2) My Curiosity and Creativity
3) It's Fun
4) I'm single. lol
5) Because of #4, I've spent a lot of money on a majority of equipment that I'm not getting rid of and spending more time on because of (see #2). They have become my babies. lol
