    Studio question for everyone

Time. Juggling beatmaking with full time jobland, my wife and child (got an 11 year old and a baby due in about a week). I've got a project on the go with a couple local lads, plus working on my next beat tape and that's been going while I've done a load of DIY (baby's nursery was my studio -...

    hard disk recorders

Old thread but I recently sold my old Akai DPS12i and kinda regret it... I use Maschine and mix in S1-Pro but when I get too 'mixdown/post-production' I miss the 'hands on' vibe I get in the the 'making/production' stage with Maschine... I've been considering a couple of (budget) options and...

    Akai Rhythm Wolf

I agree that it sounds good but think it's a mad shame about the general lack of 'outs'... They just haven't got it quite right... If it had even 4 (8 would be better!) assignable outs (in addition to a pair of monitor outs) it's sell like fireworks before GuyFawkes night!

The dangers of recording an artist

In my youth I was a total wreckhead... Since quitting weed I've met and married the love of my life, started and actually completed university education (I now have a solid honours degree in English Literature) and become generally more productive and creative! I smoked weed every day for 10...

    Your vocal chain...

I'm actually really enjoying the R102. I do have to hang a duvet up when recording vocals (waiting for the arrival of a reflection filter) but it's a big improvement on the SM58. I've also started recording my vocals (in fact all my instruments) straight into Maschine rather than into the DAW...

    What's your next purchase?

Couple of eBay purchases today... A used T-Bone Reflection Filter in an attempt to improve my vocal recordings (small room) and much more exciting... An Electric Kazoo!

    What's your next purchase?

Not gonna be my next purchase... In fact, right now it'd take me about 5 years to save up... But if you want gear-lust... http://www.allen-heath.com/ahproducts/zed-r16/

    What's your next purchase?

I just love the fact you have an 'other' side of the room!!! My desk takes up about half the room and I'm sat in the other half with room for another person to stand at the microphone. In other news... Went to a guitar fair today (a bit random) and came out with a new (used) bass! Nothing...

    What's your next purchase?

It's easily forgotten how important a good chair can be!

    What's your next purchase?

Well after picking up a Superlux R102 for cheap today, I think my next purchase will be either V2 software (for Maschine) or one of the Goldbaby drum packs... Still got a kitty going for another mic.

    Your vocal chain...

Ha! Way too much info fella! Still plannin' on a large diaphragm dynamic in the next few weeks but also just picked up a Superlux R102 (phantom powered) ribbon mic for very cheap on that auction site...

    Your vocal chain...

Mainly yes, although my missus has a voice and if I bully her enough she'll sing on tracks. She's sung live with groups as B-vox in the past

    Your vocal chain...

I'll have about £150 which is why the SM7b (although I'd really like it) is probably a no... I can get the Rode Procaster and a shockmount for £150... I've tried a friends NT1 and a Rode M3 (from work) but my room is tiny (3m x 3.4m), untreated (and as we are selling - which could take a year...

    Your vocal chain...

The whole point on an in-line preamp is that it means you don't have to drive the pres on the soundcard so hard. Mine is just a British made version of the Triton FetHead and built for use with Dynamic mics... Read (or watch) the reviews for the FetHead...

    Your vocal chain...

The Boost Barrel just gives a 20(ish)db boost of clean gain, meaning I'm able to drive the preamps in the 2i2 less when using the mic I have (the hated SM58!) meaning less noise (of the unwanted) variety in the recording. At the moment - it's a definite boon!

    Your vocal chain...

I'm looking to upgrade my vocal chain. Currently it goes SM58 into MartiAudioBoostBarrel (an in-line preamp much like a Triton FetHead) into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. I have a FatMan valve compressor coming back to me soon (been on loan to a friend) and thinking of upgrading (or having an...

What are you using right now?

I hear this a lot but I do all my arrangement within Maschine (still on 1.8) and then bounce the audio to mix in S1... To be honest I dont have a clue how to arrange in S1 as I've never needed to... Find arranging in Maschine totally intuitive... Bring in a sample - chop it up - flip it - move...

    Alright

Back then, yeah... Lots of hair! But I was always with bands that could get some groove on... Was always important to make sure any girls in the room were dancing, so the other bands on the bill would hate us cos we pretty much just played 'for' their girlfriends while we were on stage and...

    Alright

I grew up in rock n roll bands... Spent a lot of nights stood in front of a mic stand, facing an empty room and a lot of weekends in sweatbox studios... Took a pretty extended 'time out' and then got a kinda itch to start doing something again... As I've gotten older it's become apparent that...
