what type of files do i need for acid

I don't really understand what you're asking but I'll try and give it a shot :P Try loading up some VSTs as Soft Synths. Acid doesnt come with an application that lets you trigger samples like FL, for example. But if you load up a VST that lets you load the patches you're looking at, you'll...

How long does it take for Production on a Track

2 days, fastest was something like 4 hours.

It's $200, which is actually not bad.

What is your greatest asset in making your music?

Strengths: persistence, love for musicality. Weaknesses: creativity/originality, the mix, workflow, experience.

Odd question. But some responses PLZ.

I stick to a general weekly schedule, but, as Producer Gyal suggested, for music I tend to keep my scheduling (1) detailed enough that I do what's planned, yet (2) broad enough that I can learn about what I wish to learn. That way, I'm still expanding my knowledge/experience in a subject, but I...

    Backup UR SH!T!!!!!!!! reminder!!!!!!!!!

They're basically functions you call up through your Windows command prompt...Click start, run, and enter "command." I'm not a computer engineer, but this is my basic understanding of what they do... chkdsk basically scans through your hard disks and makes sure there aren't any flaws with...

    Backup UR SH!T!!!!!!!! reminder!!!!!!!!!

This is basically my maintenance routine: 1. External <---> Laptop 2. Burn to CD 3. Virus & adware scan 4. Defragment 5. chkdsk 6. sfc /scannow The last two are good because they make sure your hard disk and Windows folders are intact. Run them through your command prompt.

what are sum good external hard drives?

I've got a Seagate. I put all my sounds and beats on the external and all my programs on my computer, but putting programs on the external sounds like a pretty good idea...just don't know if it's feasible. If I were to repurchase an external I'd get one that wasn't so damn loud though.

Favorite piece of hardware and why?

I absolutely agree with this statement. Ain't nothing wrong with painting/clicking your beats together, but ultimately music is meant to be felt. The feeling I get when I'm tapping out drum patterns/playing keys and basslines/spinning vinyl makes the very experience that much more worthwhile...

Little setup i'm trying to put together

No problem fam, hope I didn't get any information wrong. Mixer: either a DJ mixer or a phono preamp (which will be cheaper)...those are designed to work with a turntable's signal. Can't recommend a specific model though. MPC: no clue, I've never tried hooking one up before. :)

Little setup i'm trying to put together

My recommendation is this: don't buy everything at once. Get familiar with a few pieces of equipment first, then slowly build on your setup. For example, the MPC1000 is a workstation...it lets you create full tracks. You won't really need a separate computer unless it was to use features on...

    Acid Users Unite

I do everything in ACID with the exception of a lot of effects...I love the layout; it's mad intuitive. I use it to chop, I lay my drums down on it, and I use it to mix. It's streamlined as hell now that I have the proper hardware for it...back in the good ol' days (last year?) I'd be clicking...

Quick ways to chop a sample?

I open the sample as a single track in ACID and start searching for cuts I like...generally as I'm going along I move cuts into different places to see if I can get a fresh loop going. As the loop gets more and more complex I start layering the sample into additional tracks using pans, etc. If...

What's good fam? I've been gone for a minute (busy in general) but here's my setup...moved everything into my room a week ago or so. Real simple, bare essentials only. Center: Acer Aspire 3003WLi Left: MPD16 Right: Oxygen8 Behind the laptop: cheap hifi Logitechs, subwoofer below the...

The overall sound of your beats

This is correct. Mix, master, EQ, and use effects with your regular speakers on flat while trying to achieve the sound you want. If it sounds good on regular speakers on low volume, it'll sound good with "3D"...

    Creating your own 'unique' sound

Ahha, that's what's up! I'm totally with you on that one, I like to take my time too. I like this concept as well. While you're striving to create hip-hop as you see it best you ultimately need to find new ways to present your vision so that you don't sound repetitive or drab. And in doing...

    Week of May 22, 2006

Ohten: I like the direction you took this in, it's unique and has an awesome vibe. I think that the bassline is a bit out of tune at certain points; the notes are either off pitch or the bass sample is being stretched a tad much. I would try to dirty the sample up a little bit; the drums are...
