In terms of workflow?
just depends on what you're used to. mine in order of ease (for me): cool edit pro (not adobe audition) fruity loops reason cubase logic i'm more comfortable with cool edit. like logic best. being won over by reason/record. -

i just calculate the bpm of the original song, and then use that as the basis for my new song. just had an instance where the calculated bpm was 89.4. i rounded my new track down to 89, and just like you're saying, the sample sounded a bit off. once i adjusted my tempo to 89.4, it was dead on. -

i agree. just keep doing you. eventually your sound will evolve into something different without you even knowing it. it'll just become "normal." i think that with all music, and all producers, you can hear who their influences are. that's not necessarily a bad thing. -
