what are the essential hardwares to add to a laptop for audio production?

The MPC 1k is great...but I'd only get it if I were mainly software based. I hate using if for melodies, you can...but it's best use is drums...period

    The thumpin' Heatmakerz sound?

Find a loud drum and process the hell out of it, just don't over compress it or all of your thump will be gone...

cleaning vocals up, in cool edit

Clean'em up?...not really GIGO, garbage in, garbage out. You may be able to filter out somethings, but if the original sounds like ass, so will the "clean" version...And if you want cool edit...buy it...lol...but somehow Cubase is much better, but also much cheaper...how the fuck does that work...

    Publishing-How does it work?

It's very complicated, But to make a long story short, you affiliate with a performing rights society (BMI or ASCAP or SESAC)...you register any song that'll get radio time...etc. Radio Stations, television stations..etc. pay a certain amount to use a song, they pay that to the society...

    Cheating On FL....W/t Reason

I have both and I definitely prefer FL. Reason makes thing way more complicated than they need to be.

    Recording Midin in FL

It could just be that you think you're on beat, but you really aren't...I do it all the time. I can never tap in drums while using FL...Prolly cuz it takes a couple times to get the feel of the beat...that's why I tap in drums using my MPC, I really don't think it can be beat...

    Used in court

...no it's not. You can't get any money unless you register your material, so what's the point. And why is everybody so cheap? If you can put up over a G to make the music, why not $30 to protect it.

I have a 1k, but I've never tried, the 16 levels are good enough for me...plus I use FL also...I'm just trying to figure out how to track my mpc stuff out...Cubase might help, but it crashes whenever I launch it...

    Triplets !

I'm not exactly sure I know what you're talking about, but can't you play them yourself and then quantize if you're off a little bit? Even if you don't have a midi controller, you could either find the note on the keyboard itself, or play any key and then move it using the piano...

    Who Heard Of Taxi?

I wouldn't if I were you...I'm subscribed myself...total waste of time. You could put that $350 or however much it is now into some hardware upgrades or sample cds. Why? First off, you have to put up $5 for every track you submit...which is crazy. Also, creating an instrumental for sed publisher...

    Keeping my rights

Take a trip to their office, ask for references from other people, most won't ask for money up front, they'll simply take their percentage of every sale so it's not all about money.

    uncleared samples

Look it up, it's all over the news...well hip hop news at least...See copyright infringement isn't exactly measureable. I mean there's the amount that the person makes off the infringement, but then there's the harm done to the repuation and image of the person who's been stolen from...

    Keeping my rights

Understand that though NY is the biggest, it isn't the only city w/ major ent. lawyers... Jadakiss's management is right here in Philly (J. Erving). Black Friday, everybody from the Roc's management except for Jig and M. Bleek, is right here in philly...I could go on. That said, I wouldn't...

    Keeping my rights

Why do you want one out of NYC? Not being cynical/sarcastic, but a lawyer is a lawyer. Are they expensive? No, you can find one that works on flat rate charges...and also..if you're dealing w/ an "official label" why let a few hundred stand between you and a few thousand...

    Keeping my rights

You don't get them, you already have them. You have to draw up a contract stating exactly what you want. You own 50% of the song, make sure that's in their. I don't recommend using any "standard" contracts. Enlist the help of an Ent. Lawyer, they will be able to draw up a contract, even...

    sample cds for FL

I don't know if you have the official version, chances are you don't...but if you do, you can download some of the sounds yourself. About a month ago they sent me a link to download some of hte samples. As far as hip hop goes, not very good at all, but sounds are sounds I guess. I'd just as soon...
